Hello Farm Cart Family,

It has been a frigging insane year. This time last year, if someone told me what was in store for 2020, I would have said they were crazy. But in reality, all our lives have been turned upside down and twisted all around.

It’s been tough, and it has been real. But there have been moments of beauty and truth amongst all the chaos. And I’m insanely proud to say that because of you guys, the truth for our farmers and for local agriculture everywhere has been one of growth and empowerment.

They say that a rising tide lifts all boats. And they say that you don’t appreciate what you have until a crisis. Well, the pandemic has opened our eyes to this- the importance of building a strong local food system. It is core to what Farm Cart Organics is and core to what our farmers value.

We want to say thank you for believing in the importance of a strong local food system and for putting your dollars here. Thank you for finding a way to eat up that head of lettuce or bunch of beets, even when you didn’t want to. Thank you for staying subscribed, even when you were bored. We see you and appreciate you.

Some of you have been with us since the beginning of our journey as two hard-working farm kids trying to make it work out of the back of our Toyota truck. Others of you have come on board more recently and know us as 5 new vans delivering all across the county direct to your door, a slick little Instagram, and a super friendly voice on the other end of your e-mail. Regardless of when you jumped on board, and trusted us to feed your family a clean food source, we hope that you understand that we hold your trust very seriously.

So, where are we going, and how are we going to get there? How does our little local business do more? How do we empower good farmers to farm more land, improving their practices as they go? How do we tackle food waste, plastic mulch waste, food insecurity, and food injustice? We jumped into agriculture together, for more than just the perks of tasty clean food, and for more than just the romance of beautiful farm land. We jumped into this together to make a change and strive to make the biggest difference possible.

With that in mind and with all of these questions in place. Take a moment to buy into our vision a little bit, and see how we got to the spot we’re in now. We are at the end of a huge growth year. Our business grew 6x as large within two weeks, and proudly we adapted and performed. Everything we earned from this growth, went back into this project of responsible agriculture. That is what Farm Cart Organics truly is. A project. A project that you are an active participant in.

Our project has gotten to this point by the good will of those more established than us. When we quickly grew out of our old space, a friend’s business in town opened their warehouse doors to help us out. Our close friends at Dune Coffee Shop let us borrow their delivery van when we only had one operating vehicle. And when we only had 5 employees to get this job done, friends and family helped us get the boxes out to the community.

But now, we are ready to take this project to the next level. The level where we can bring the plastic mulch recycling to reality, to the level where we can bring the food waste compost program to reality, to the level where we can take the premium price out of organic and create access to clean food for those historically not given access reality…. And to the level where we are empowering more and more beautifully, responsibly organically farmed acres to replace the irresponsibly farmed acres, then we must build a real foundation.

So, when you see our new refrigerated vans coming to your door, and you see our new warehouse facility open up in the social media world, and when you see our commercial kitchen all come online this year, know that we are doing all of this because of you. With you, and for the greater good. The moment our foundation is strong, we are going to dive into the next place and all together decide where this project goes.

Because you have empowered a motivated team of hard-working farm kids on a mission to build the most honest, most transparent, most powerful local food business possible. And while we are scared by the depth of this, we are also super excited for what is to come. Happy New Years, we are excited for what’s next to come.

With love,

Jason & Katherine
